President Muhammadu Buhari was advised to do away with people
using the way the 2015 presidential election was determined to
instigate anti-Igbo remarks and to make him implement unfriendly Igbo
policies.
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP)’s stalwart made this known in his speech during the
integrated economic summit organised by the Aka Ikenga, a socio-cultural
organisation in Aba, Abia state on Friday, November 27.
The
PDP chieftain said those people going behind to paint the name of Igbo
in black in front of President Muhammadu Buhari were all making grave
mistakes. He said: “The Igbos have accepted him (Buhari) as head of state and he should regard us as his people.
“President Buhari should be careful of those who go to him and tell him that Igbo don’t like him. Igbos do not hate Buhari.”
While
speaking on Igbos support for Buhari, he opined that as there is no
more electioneering, the president should see himself as the father of
all Nigerians and his governing party, the All Progressives Congress
(APC) which controls the central government.
He said Ndigbos at
home and in the diaspora have keyed into the programmes of Buhari
regarding war against corruption, jobs for the unemployed youths and
security of lives and properties.
He also stated his position on the current agitation for a state of Biafra. He said: “Most of the pro-Biafra protesters are frustrated and feel that the country can’t protect them. Our people are suffering”.
On Friday, November 27, reports had it that
the Ohaneze Youth Wing told the federal government that it will give
room for dialogue after the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the director of
Radio Biafra.
Chief Iwuanyanwu said the
Biafra protest should be seen as a way in which the Igbo people are
demanding for good leadership and not as a real agitation for secession
of the Igbos as some mischievous people are saying.
He said Igbos have so many stakes in the oneness of Nigeria as a nation. He concluded by saying that: “The
truth is that Igbos believe in one united Nigeria than any other
(because) no other tribe has invested so much in other parts of the
country than Igbos.
